A basement is the only room built directly against the ground, which is why a concrete-first contractor is a good fit for basement finishing. Before JDG frames a wall in Centereach, Selden or anywhere on Long Island, we inspect the slab and foundation walls, because a finished basement over a moisture problem will not stay finished.
What is included
- Moisture check on slab and walls
- Slab and wall crack repair
- Framing laid out around mechanicals
- Insulation for below-grade walls
- Drywall, ceilings and access panels
- Flooring chosen for below grade
- Lighting, paint and finish carpentry
Why it lasts
Efflorescence, staining, slab cracks and musty air all point to water. We find where it comes from, including outside grading and downspouts, and recommend fixing the source before any drywall covers it.
The layout works around what cannot move: stairs, boiler, water heater, electric panel and support columns. Access is left where you will need to reach valves and shutoffs later.
Questions homeowners ask
My basement gets damp. Can it still be finished?
It depends on where the moisture comes from. We look at the slab, the walls and outside drainage first, and recommend fixing the source before finishing.
Can you add a bathroom in the basement?
Often, when the layout and plumbing allow it. We assess that during the site visit.
Do finished basements need permits or egress?
Usually, yes. Finished basements raise real questions about egress, ceiling height and how the space will be used, and your town sets the rules. We go over those during the site visit before you commit to a plan.
